American Presidential Candidate Spouses
Brian Frederick, Laurel Elder, Barbara Burrell
- Palgrave Macmillan
- 20 Mars 2018
- 9783319738796
The book offers a comprehensive analysis of public opinion toward presidential candidate spouses over the course of three decades, drawing on multiple theoretical frameworks including the concept of "new traditionalism" and a plethora of empirical data to explore why some spouses engender greater support than others-and what these reactions reveal about the American public and the gendered nature of the American presidency. Recognizing that presidential candidate spouses are important but understudied political actors, this book provides extensive analysis of public evaluations of Bill Clinton and Melania Trump during the 2016 presidential election as well as the presidential candidate spouses in the 1992 and 2012 elections and places public reaction to these individuals in historical context. The book considers important trends in U.S. elections including party polarization from the distinctive vantage points of candidate spouses and explores the symbolic importance of historic firsts including the first African American candidate spouse and the first male candidate spouse. No other work provides a systematic exploration of public opinion towards candidate spouses as distinct political entities across the modern political era.

On her seventh birthday, Pauline rode across the lawns on her street followed by her best friend Henry, he on the blue wooden horse, she on the red. On the seventh lawn at the top of the street, she collapsed, becoming a sudden victim of the polio outbreak of the summer of 1954.
Five years later, when In the Clear begins, she has survived, but paid a heavy price. A brace on her left leg allows her to walk, but she confines herself to her house, humiliated at the notion of being seen. Terrified by what Pauline has already suffered, her mother watches over her, forbidding her to play hockey on the ice rink her father has created in the backyard.
In the Clear alternates, chapter by chapter, between Pauline's horror-filled year in the hospital five years earlier and her struggles to adapt in the present of 1959 and 1960. At the end of the book, her triumphs in past and present come together and she is able to move forward with new friendships, a renewed bond with her mother and, most important, a new faith in herself. -

William Wilfred Campbell

- 9780889205253
This is a representative collection of the writings of a neglected Canadian author, William Wilfred Campbell (1858-1918). Among the 112 poems in William Wilfred Campbell: Selected Poetry and Essays are the familiar "Indian Summer" and "How One Winter Came in the Lake Region," along with many less well-known love poems, patriotic songs, and occasional poems. Some twenty manuscript pieces are published here for the first time. The notorious "Mermaid Inn" essay in which Campbell refers to the mythical nature of the cross is included, and so is the letter of self-justification that Campbell wrote-but never sent-to the editor of the Globe. Here, too, are speeches, essays published in The Week and the Ottawa Evening Journal, and significant sections from Campbells unfinished treatise on evolution, "The Tragedy of Man." By the time Campbell died on New Year's Day 1918, shifting values had begun to turn critical opinion against his work. Now William Wilfred Campbell: Selected Poetry and Essays will enable Canadians to appreciate Campbells art and to recognize his place in the development of Canadian thought.

Authors from sixteen countries across the Asia-Pacific region have collaborated to share their experiences with developing and implementing mobile learning initiatives. These projects focus on a variety of aspects of mobile learning innovation, from the trial adoption of existing social media platforms on mobile devices and the development of specialised applications or mobile learning systems, to the large-scale, interuniversity implementation of technologies and pedagogies to support mobile learning.
Each chapter addresses challenges and solutions at one or more levels of mobile learning innovation within the education system, encompassing the student perspective, the educator perspective, technical processes, policies and organisational strategy, and leadership. Ultrasound Imaging in Reproductive Medicine
Laurel Stadtmauer, Ilan Tur-Kaspa
- Springer
- 21 Décembre 2013
- 9781461491828
Over the last 25 years, the advances in ultrasound have paralleled advances in Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). ART could not even be practiced or considered today without imaging. Ultrasound has become the most important and widely used tool in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Ultrasound evaluation is one of the first steps to assess the cause of infertility; the three areas of evaluation are the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tubes. Ultrasound allows physicians to diagnose ovarian reserve but also pathologies such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, or other ovarian cysts that can impact fertility. The results of this initial exam immediately affect the decisions in the management of the patient's condition. When fertility treatments begin, ultrasound is used in almost any interaction with the patient in order to monitor follicular development and endometrial response; ultrasound guidance is also vital for embryo retrieval and transfer (ET).Ultrasound Imaging in Reproductive Medicine provides a comprehensive survey of the use of ultrasonography in the female pelvis for physicians, nurses, and ultrasonographers actively involved in reproductive medicine and infertility. With a critical evaluation of advantages and disadvantages, the book covers traditional and new technologies, including three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound for ovarian reserve, ovarian monitoring and endometrial cavity assessment, Ultrasound, MRI and CT evaluation of tubal patency, MRI guided ultrasound procedures for treatment of uterine fibroids, imaging techniques of the embryo and embryo transfer, and pulsed color Doppler techniques. 3D ultrasound to assess ovarian and endometrial volume and 3D automated monitoring of follicles are also covered in detail with up to date references.

Adolescent Suicide and Self-Injury
Laurel L. Williams, Owen Muir
- Springer
- 22 Juillet 2020
- 9783030428754
This volume presents a comprehensive and practical approach to the treatment of suicide and NSSI for adolescents utilizing a mentalizing framework. The beginning of the text provides up-to-date information on the theory of a mentalizing therapy in order to ground the readers in the neuroscientific underpinnings of a mentalizing approach. Next chapters provide information on the fundamental building blocks of a mentalizing therapy at the individual and family level. These chapters provide step-by-step approaches in order to provide examples of the techniques involved in mentalizing treatment that can be employed to address suicidality and NSSI. The next chapter builds on these concepts as the reader learns about mentalizing failures involved in common co-morbidities in adolescents who are experiencing suicidality and/or employing NSSI. The next several chapters cover practical issues related to working within this patient population including the key concept of social systems and connections for both providers and adolescents, the ability of mentalizing theory and therapy to integrate with other effective therapies, how to approach sessions after a suicide attempt, resiliency for patient, family and the provider, along with important self-care for a therapist if a patient commits suicide. The final chapter brings all of the aforementioned elements together in order for the reader to conceptualize employing a mentalizing approach to adolescents and their families when suicide and NSSI concerns are a predominate focus of care. Illustrations of specific therapeutic approaches and a list of resources and guidelines where available are also included.Adolescent Suicide and Self-Injury is an excellent resource for all clinicians working with youths at risk for suicide and/or self-injury, including psychiatrists, psychologists, pediatricians, family medicine physicians, emergency medicine specialists, social workers, and all others.

Now in an updated edition, this is the most comprehensive book on modern ultrasound imaging in assisted reproductive technology (ART) and reproductive medicine. Fully revised and expanded, it covers emerging technologies possible with the improvement in ultrasound equipment. 3-D monitoring of ovarian follicles, bidirectional vibrant color and Doppler, and improved 3-D and 4-D imaging of reproductive structures are discussed. MRI-guided ultrasound procedures are covered, and comparisons of 3-D imaging with MRI imaging for uterine anomalies is reviewed with an emphasis on the advantages of 3-D performed in the gynecologist's office, and as a less expensive modality. The overall approach of the original edition is maintained, starting with ultrasound safety and technique and diagnosis of the ovary, uterus and fallopian tubes (both normal and pathologic), followed by both male and female infertility and ART treatments and procedures.
